When Dolphins Attack (02/21/2009)
released: Feb 21, 2009
description: A boat captain, far away at sea, stands on the bow of his ship, surrounded by bodies. Beneath him, shadowy forms lurk, ready to pounce. As he screams his invitation for them to do their worse, dolphins leap from the water. The ocean fills with blood.
Meanwhile, teenagers leave their beach party to go skinny dip. They are intercepted by Dr. Tom Flanders, who warns them of a vicious breed of dolphins -- a breed he is familiar with, because he himself crossed the dolphins with killer bees. He send the teenagers away, and tells them never to come back if they want to live.
In the town's one coffee shop, Maxine teases regular customer Carl until Jack enters and asks if Carl still has that maroon Silverado. Carl confirms he does, and Jack says he just saw it peeling away. A mysterious stranger listens to their exchange, and finally asks if the townspeople know anything of dolphins and killer bees. Carl immediately responds that he does -- that is how he lost his legs. The stranger, Jean George, nods knowingly. Meanwhile, the teenagers are run down by a maroon Silverado -- driven by a dolphin.
In his ocean research lab, Dr. Flanders pins the locations of the attacks. He reminds his graduate assistant, Janet, of his mistake in crossing the dolphins and killer bees, and says that tomorrow, they will take to the seas so that he can have his revenge.
As Jean George explains his love of the killer dolphins to his companion for the evening, the dolphins wreak more havoc. Deep in the ocean, the dolphins drag the bodies of the teenagers to the hive they have created from human corpses. They celebrate with mating, and then, hungry again, go to Dead Man's Cove for a snack -- this time a fisherman. As they begin to feast, one is suddenly stopped by a harpoon through the head. Carl appears and tells the other dolphin to warn his friends that he is coming for them.
Dr. Flanders and Janet go to the docks to rent a boat, and discover that Carl is the only captain available. Soon into their trip, he invites Janet to uncover a tarp on the boat -- revealing Jean George. The Frenchman introduces himself to Dr. Flanders as his nemesis, friend to the dolphins. He swears that he will do whatever he can to protect them, and promptly jumps onto the back of a dolphin and submerges.
Jean George travels directly into the hive of corpses, into the chamber of the Queen Dolphin. There, he charms and seduces her. He then immediately names himself king, and orders the dolphins to attack the humans coming for them. One giggly dolphin in particular is ordered to stand sentry, a move which results in a harpooning by Carl. The three drag the body onto the boat, and disguise Janet inside it as Dr. Flanders prepares to dive.
Dr. Flanders and Janet swim through the first watch of dolphins and into the ventilation system in the hive. They make their way to the queen's chamber. Dr. Flanders takes the queen, who has been left alone, hostage -- but as soon as he does, Jean George appears behind him and informs him that if Dr. Flanders kills the queen, he will kill Dr. Flanders. Janet appears behind Jean George with the same threat. They are quite at a standstill -- for the moment.
Carl races in his submersible towards them, but not before running alongside the dolphin in his Silverado for a moment. He tells the dolphin to check the glove compartment, which contains several sticks of dynamite. The Silverado explodes, and Carl continues on. He rushes into the hive, harpoons Dr. Flanders and Janet through the legs, pulling them into the submersible, and destroys the dolphin hive.
Safe on the boat again, Carl congratulates himself on a job well done as Dr. Flanders asks Janet to marry him. Meanwhile, on the shore, teenagers play volleyball, safe once again.
