The Lost Penguins (12/26/2006)
released: Dec 26, 2006
description: The movie opens with personal items being thrown into a suitcase. The suitcase closes, and Sister Mary Patrick takes it up and walks out of her cloister into the streets of the city. A tear streams down her face. Meanwhile, Father John Patrick meets with Father Ralph and Father Jennings to discuss the missing nun. Father Jennings remembers that during some of their after-rosary chats, Sister Mary Patrick expressed an interest in leaving to pursue her true passion - aroma therapy. The scene cuts to Sister Mary Patrick, who is walking into the wonderland that is the perfume counter at Macy's. A salesman immediately welcomes her and introduces her to the seductive life that is spritzing passers-by. Father Ralph and Father Jennings frantically search through perfume samples and magazine ads to get an idea of Sister Mary Patrick's whereabouts. However, the only thing they discover is their true feelings for each other. They are interrupted, however, by a phone call from the all-knowing Father John Patrick. Father Jennings is later wandering the streets, miserable, when she passes by the Macy's window and spots Sister Mary Patrick dressing a mannequin. She rushes into the store and confronts the nun, asking her to return to the church, telling her the third graders are beyond control without her. Sister Mary Patrick maintains that she is doing what makes her happy and pursuing her dream. Father Jennings accepts that and promises she won't tell anyone where Sister Mary Patrick is. Meanwhile, Father John Patrick, Father Ralph, and Father Joe are enjoying a few drinks at the local bar and discussing the disappearance of Sister Mary Patrick. Father Ralph eventually confesses to his fellow priests that he has developed feelings for another priest. The priests all agree that no priest is perfect, with Father John Patrick having once skinned a man, but all are still uncomfortable and quickly leave when Father Jennings rushes in. Father Ralph immediately realizes she has found Sister Mary Patrick and they set off to get her. Sister Mary Patrick, meanwhile, finds herself face to face with John Q. Macy, who wants to make sure the sister is happy in her new line of work. The two sing the praises of the perfume counter, and Sister Mary Patrick states she has never been happier. Outside the store, Father Jennings remains adamant that Sister Mary Patrick should be allowed to do what makes her happy when the two priests see the nun in the window, cozying up to a mannequin in the Mary Poppins display. Although she tries to hide, the two find her. Father Ralph tries to convince her to return to the church where she is needed, but Sister Mary Patrick insists she is needed at Macy's too. She leads them to another window where she shows them a display she has made of Jesus. She tells them she has carried on the word of the church, even if she isn't directly working with it. Father John Patrick appears out of no where to inform the three that they have all learned from this experience. They each state their lessons, and Father John Patrick tells them they are no longer sheep - they have found their way and moved up to goats. When Father Ralph protests this, Father John Patrick delivers an inspirational sermon about everyone's place in this world that brings truth and understanding to each of them. The movie ends as Father John Patrick spontaneously bursts into flames.
